It always starts out fun! The three of us on bikes ready to ride a 15 mile loop in the Everglades. Tim and I brought our bikes 1,000 miles on the back of our car. We had a $20 rental for Luke-one speed, pedal brakes, cushioned seat (which comes in handy later in the day!)
Not even 100 yards down the trail and we see our first alligator. Sunning himself on the grassy bank.
Look closely and you will see a nest of babies. They looked so cute. Little did we know mama was close by.
She quickly emerged from the bank. Crawling up to make sure we weren’t getting too close to her precious ones.
Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. They were everywhere you looked!
The landscape was beautiful.
Happy to be making memories with Luke on his last high school spring break.
I want to jump into those pictures both to enjoy the warmth, and also to tell you to get farther away from those gators! Your pictures captured the joy and spirit in the ride!
I was so easily drawn in by your description on the page, “photo essay.” Your galleries did not disappoint!
I’m amazed at your bravery. Though I consider myself a bit of an adventurer when it comes to writing (and thinking, ha ha), I don’t know that I could have followed your footsteps in your proximity to those alligators. Yikes!
Nevertheless, I so greatly appreciated how you esteemed what we would otherwise consider such ferocious creatures. You lovingly denoted the relationship to which so many of us can relate – a mother fiercely prepared to protect her little children.
The angles, colors and content are so rich with literary texture. I also enjoyed the sentiment of your last spring break.
Thank you for the reminder that a series of photographs can add such wonderful dimensions to our writing. I felt like I got to take a bit of this trip with you – and I certainly enjoyed the journey.

This is a great photo essay, even though I’m not keen on alligators, the photos are great and glad you got to spend time with your son.
